p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Lonely on a Hill

now that i dont live 12mins from an amazing coastline, i have been obsessing on lone oak trees on wonderfully curved and sweeping hills. these were both on the same night and on the same stretch of land.

one of my buddies thinks that I should straighten the horizon. i think that it leads the eye into the tree and then explodes it out into the sky. if you'd like to see it straightened i have one i could post.

I think the curved horizon suits the shot. Awesome shots! I'm still trying to find lone trees where I live.

I like both as they are, Killer.
Ah- the old question: should I change the horizon line when in fact it is not horizontal?
IMO it always depends on what "looks right to me."
In this case (#1) it looks right as is.
In most of the world the only natural horizons that ARE horizontal are large bodies of water and large dry lake beds.
Hills? Almost never.

Just tell him that the camera was level. They both look good to me.

with some creative framing and composing you can find a lot of "lone" trees on hills

thanks!

Hey Tyler,

I think #1 looks super as it is. I think if you straightened the horizon, the tree would feel like it was falling over. As it is, it does feel like it's exploding out from the lower right corner.
