I agree with Douglas. As much as these decaying relics make compelling subjects, it sucks that we don't do more to keep them intact and useful. Such a waste.
many thanks John. this place was damaged a good deal in the 1989 quake and may not be used ever again. but they hope to restore much of it. we'll see . . . . .

I agree it's a shame that so many beautiful things from the past are left to fall apart.
The problem- of course- is that restoring them is always horribly expensive. And where does the money come from?
No easy answers, I'm afraid.
