Can anyone with experience with the Extenders tell me the difference I can expect if I move from my Mk Is to Mk IIs or Mk IIIs? At this point, I only use them with my 70-200 Mk 2, won't be getting any super teles.
The Mark II extenders are the same optically as Mark I, just with better build quality and a weather seal gasket. The Mark III extenders have a different optical formula, but mostly noticeable for less CA and better AF with the Mark II supertelephoto primes. I personally could not see much difference on my 70-200 II to justify replacing my 2X II with a 2x III extender.
I agree with vsg28.......and with the vs II's.....you could double stack them if needed. I used to do that alot on my 400 2.8.....but with the vs III's they changed the size/material on the snoot of the 1.4 and it now doesn't fit inside the 2X

As stated in a post above, the 2X II is not the same formula as the original 2X. Look at the rear glass.
There is site where you can compare image quality with lens x and extender y. I remember using it when looking at the 1.4x II vs III on my 500 but can't seem to find it now.
MKI and MKII have completely different coatings with MKII being much better. MKII to MKIII a much tougher decision. All pixel peepers will want MKIII but I question that the difference can ever be seen in print.

Not quite; the mk II 2x TC was improved optically over the mk I; actually a different design and is well worth the upgrade if you still have a 2x TC mk I.
