is it really worth the extra money from a 50mm 1.4? ive been thinking about it.
In the vast majority of cases, even among very serious shooters... no.
The photographs presented in this thread range from quite pedestrian to very nice, but I'm not seeing any among that achieve whatever quality they posses purely on the basis of being shot with the 50mm L - other factors are at work and significant in each case.
Thanks Yakim, I remember that shot in the Weekly Assignment. I hope all is well for you. And the lens did make that shot. f1.2 and the kind of bokeh from the 50L worked perfectly for this.
Yes, I remember it too but a great shot is a great shot. Lens? Well of course, but minor things like choosing composition, light and subject also play a minor roll.
Sadly, I'm still not too well, as you can see from my absence from the WA forum. I also sold almost all my gear due to these financial difficulties and I hardly shoot. Just lost the urge. That said, I recently started studying to be a teacher so the distant future will probably be fine. It's now only a matter of reaching it...
It's difficult to hear stories like yours, especially when it involves selling off camera equipment that is your passion. I hope your teaching career starts sooner than later and you can get back on track.

It depends on what you are looking for. Imo, 50L collects more data for you to easily done in post:
Great shot, Lars. This shows how wonderful the 50L is...regardless how busy the scenes...it simply takes more beautiful pictures compared to other 50 lenses. He is the prince of your own creation
