The Leica Wrist Strap for Multi-Function Hand Grip for S2 Camera looks like it might work with the Nikon D800 with an RRS L-plate.

Anyone tried this?

No, but my older generation Canon Leather wrist strap works fine with the RRS L-plate.

Why wouldn't the Leica work? It's just a strap...goes from point A to point B.

Seems rediculous to even consider at $140 mind you.

I use the Camdapter prostrap, and it's perfect. I don't see anything about the Leica to justify spending 5x the price.

The Canon E1 hand strap is getting harder to find. I like it better than the newer E2 model.

Based on this reply I say you should get the Leica strap. If it doesn't fit, just pull out the grinder and make it work.
