A friend of mine gave me two pieces of Nik software she isn't using. Color Efex Pro 3.0 and Viveza 1.0.
Can someone tell me the difference between these two and which would be better to start with? I'm looking to use it to enhance portraits and head shots mostly. Thanks - B
So, I can do the same thing with PS CS5 in my case as I could with Viveza? I don't know what a U-point tool is, but I will check it out. If I can do it in PS and it works as well or is as easy then I won't install it. Thanks B
Do make the effort to familiarize yourself with the u-point (or use of multiple u-points together or separately) controls. Note the convenient placement of the sliders at each u-point and the subtle changes you can effect by moving the u-point itself slightly around. These multiple moving 'masks' greatly reduce the PP efforts, being invoked from within PS, they are a click away and once their capabilities are seen by you, I doubt you will be able to ignore their value.
it depends. The versions you have are the older versions and as such, I think are only PS plug-ins. I think they now make versions that are usable as direct LR plug-ins (ie. no need for PS).
So, you may have to export the image from LR to PS and use them there.
CEP3 can be used straight from LR. IMO CEP3 is a much more expansive software than Viveza, but both has it's place. I say play with both and see if you like it. Of course everything and more can be done in CS, but Nik just makes it easier for some. Also if you do enjoy CEP3 I would highly consider purchasing CEP4 as it has a few new useful filters, you can copy control points and layer multiple filters. With CEP3, Viveza can be handy, but ever since I got CEP4 I never used Viveza since.
Just watch out, once you find out how easy they are to use and the improvements that can be made to your work, you'll want the rest of the bundle! If you think you want the bundle, just go for it, you get a huge discount that way rather than buying it piece-meal like I did.
I wish they would make the U points available in other than a circle.
A selection would be awesome.
I only have Viveza, BTW.
I hardly use it anymore...

We know the quality of the product now, thats all we need at this point, right?
If you buy the Complete Collection for 500 Euro, you like to be sure they support and upgrade it also. And that's not really sure here. Remember that Google bought the company just to get their Snapseed software.
So the quality today is not enough for me when spending that much on a plugin software.
