p.1 #1 · Girls Playoff Soccer

Shot this high school girl's soccer game Saturday afternoon. It was a playoff game between two neighboring schools that aren't too fond of each other. Emotion's ran high, and it was a mix of bright sun, pouring rain and a little of everything in between.

Nikon D3 with 300 f/2.8 and 1.4 TC (May be a few D300 with 70-200 sprinked in as well.) C&C welcome.

A super-solid set, Rick. Lots of decent action and emotion, and a few really nice jubes. I think 5-9 could benefit from a bit of a levels adjustment to bump up the blacks (I know the weather was a factor here, but the adjustments might make a difference), but that's a nit-pick. Great work.

Thanks for weighing in Russ. I really liked the jube shots, too. Feel like the teams' long history of disliking each other made the jube shots more of a "in your face" type of celebration.

Based on Russ's eagle eye, I tweaked the blacks -- and think it is a very good suggestion. Here are the "mulligans." Thank you Russ. Good call.

Guy, that's the toughest part for me is trying to get it all. There are some games where it feels so easy -- and then other days it feels like you can't get a decent shot to save your life. When I walked off the field I wasn't sure what to think. Pleasantly suprised by some of them. Thanks for checking them out.

Very nice set Rick, and agree the reworks are punchier. The weather in some of these makes for outstanding captures, and love the composition in #7, too funny.

Very nice set of pics. The jube shots says it all especially #7. I would do a vertical on #8 if it was me. The girls on the right side do not add anything.

Hate shooting in rain but love what it looks like after the gear dries out. When I saw 7 in the finder, I knew it had a chance to be pretty good. Glad you see that too,

Hey Jerry, I looked at that one a couple times and thought the same thing. I was afraid to leave a floating hand or foot from the crop but I will try it and repost. Thanks for the suggestion.

The levels adjustment definitely helped, Rick. 1, 4 & 10 are my action pick favs. Gotta say the combo of 15 & 16 tells the story very well! All excellent work.

May be me but, 12 seems a bit oof, probably would not include.

Thanks for checking them out and taking the time to comment. I have looked at 12 a number of times and wondered about that myself. Think it is back-focused on defender no offensive player. Good catch.

Frank, I have really enjoyed shooting soccer this fall. Love being able to see faces without face masks, helmets, etc. pretty pleased with the jube shots. Now if I could just get great rain shots without getting wet....
