New to this forum and new to the B&W stuff as well. The photo below was taken several years ago. There was a lot of smoke in the air due a forrest fire several miles away. I tried different ways to do a color version and gave up since nothing was working. Recently while going through some of the older photos, decided to try B&W on this. The result is below. I would appreciate some C&C and advice on how this can be improved.
i think it's quite good, and i don't see anything in the overall conversion that looks bad. if anything i'd probably burn the bottom left corner a bit because it pulls you out of the frame.
what else could you do? maybe mess with your luminance channels to see if you can create more contrast between the trees on the slopes and the rock(?) faces? but at this point i think you're getting into pretty subjective territory and it's going to depend on what YOU want the image to look like.
one other thing: how about your contrast in the highlight areas like the snow? the darker areas in the snow looking quite dark and almost "dirty". again, this is me looking at it like i would look at it, and asking the questions i'd ask myself. you know best if this gives a representation/look you want to create.
well, the snow seems to overpower the composition (which is very good), so I might try to open up the sky a little for balance. and work on the contrast in the forested areas. and I agree with the suggestion on a stronger vignette in the lower corners.

Very nice
I agree with the suggestions.
I'd like to see a bit more drama in the sky, closer to your first version. I wonder if there is anything to pull out in the sky on the left. It looks oddly flat.
