Upload & Sell: Off
| p.1 #13 · Youth football sideline sportraits |
October always gives me some of the best light to work with. The backgrounds at this field are very challenging... it's the outfield of a baseball diamond, so it's surrounded with an outfield fence with torn mesh, chain link with cars and bleachers behind it, sponsors banners, plastic construction mesh (with supports that aren't plumb) to block off the infield, concession stand/announcer's box, etc. But if I stay low enough and shoot up, I try to capture some of the nice foliage above. And then I just count on the 600/4L to melt the rest of the clutter.
Love the candids. In your experience do these sell better than the action?
It's always hard to predict and frustrating at times to predict what will sell. I try to keep a copy of the images that actually sold in a folder... it's not hard to determine that faces sell better than the best action. The other advantage of these sideline shots is that you can capture kids that aren't always carrying the ball... lots of 2nd stringers and linemen. Parents love buying shots of their kids in uniform, even (or especially) if they don't get to play as much as the key players.
