p.1 #1 · Caterpillar update

First shot from a month ago, the rest over the last few days of the only surviving cabbage white caterpillar I could find on the rocket salad leaves.

Very fine set, with a particular appreciation of #2. Are we witnessing genuine truth in advertising in the aposematic coloration? If so, I hope it isn't obtained from these salad leaves!!!

Thanks again for the comments

R.E - had to look up aposematic - " (of the coloration of certain distasteful or poisonous animals) characterized by bright conspicuous markings, which predators recognize and learn to avoid; warning"

Not sure if these are poisonous- they are certainly hard to find in the leaves and a few years ago I watched a wasp tear apart a whole colony of them.

The word is taken from the literature that I am just reading by the great British naturalists like Hugh Cott, Malcolm Edmunds, etc... Ruxton et al provide a good recent summary. This may be an instance of false advertising, but the wasps warning coloration certainly doesn't appear to be.
