p.1 #1 · China- Emperor Chin's Imperial Guard

Father of the nation we call China- over 2,000 years ago Emperor Chin brought the feudal states under his mantle, and China was born.
As death approached, Chin had life-sized terra cota statues made of his officers and men. Each face is supposedly of an individual man.
Buried and forgotten for hundreds of years, in the 20th century their discovery was made in the outskirts of the city of Xi'an, and partial excavation occurred.
Originals can be seen close-up by the public (first image) in the on-site museum.
Second image is an artist "factory" where copies are made for sale.

Nice Charlie, I've still got a couple of the smaller copies from my trip to Xi'an back in '89.
Interesting place...

Thanks, Mike.
1989? That's only a few years after I led seven tour groups through China (with local and national guides). My tours were in the early 1980s, and all the itineraries included Xi'an.
