p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · D700 L-bracket on D600

As per the title, has anyone with a D600, tried using the kirk (or similar) L-bracket from their D700?

I'm wondering how it would fit, I'm not worried about using the connections on the side while the bracket is mounted. Just wondering if even fits (I know the D600 is a bit smaller), so I'd assume it would.

The RRS D700 L-bracket doesn't fit the D600...

Not only does it not fit, you might well damage the camera or the bracket if you try too hard to screw it in.

The D700 body is very different from the D600, and these things are made to mold exactly to the contours of the body. Get one specific to yours.

I use my d800 bracket on my d600. Not a perfect fit, but close enough.

Here's a D700 Kirk plate on a D600. It will not fit because of that left strap lug:

You can sell the D700 L-plate for $100 - $110.

Why not just spring for the difference?

Exactly - this is like the Scumbag Steve meme on the internet...

"Buys $2100 Camera...cheaps out on $150 bracket..."

The Hejnar bracket for the D600 is available -- I just got one. Unlike the (not yet available) Kirk or RRS versions, it's a two piece design that allow you to remove the L. That might not be a big deal for everyone, but it is to me. I use the bottom plate all the time, because I use a Camdapter grip that attaches to the plate. I don't like the L when I'm not working with a tripod, and it's not easy to switch between an L bracket and a standard plate. The two piece design, for me, is perfect, and the Hejnar version is very good.

I'm just upgrading the body, $150 is still alot of money. If it fits and works, why would I need a new custom bracket?

5 minutes with the dremel and now the D700 bracket fits the D600 perfectly

I was very surprised that the contours even matched

It's a solid fit, no flex and no gaps. I'm very happy with it. As a bonus, it even allows me to use the LCD protector, unlike the RRS
