I got to cover it on the ground this weekend.

It would be great to see other's photos of the long trip to California Science Center.

Canon 5D2, 28-300L IS @ 120mm, 1/500, f/9, ISO 200.

Hi Jim,
Great shot! I couldn't do it this time around although I did manage to take some shots of the Endeavor when it flew over the Queen Mary last month.

Thanks Joshua! Yes, I saw your terrific shots, along with others on that thread, and almost posted these shots there. But as I have quite a few ground shots over two days, thought it might be better to provide others the chance to show their "ground" shots. This was your old 5D2 put to good use -- thanks again.

5D2, 28-300L IS, f/9, ISO 200. 10-shot pano.

Aaah, while it was at the Forum.... So, Jim, you have been using that 28-300mm lens a lot, have you not? You must have liked it then.

Enjoy the 5D Mark II further and thanks for posting,
Joshua

Yes, Joshua, I love the 28-300L for situations like this where it covers a huge range of scenes and close-ups. The detail of the 5D2 (and especially 5D3!) is exceptional with this lens. I know the 28-300 is not everyone's cup of tea, but it works great dealing with the unexpected.

Here are a few cropped areas from the first photo to show the richness of the human interaction with the Shuttle.

Impressive, Jim, impressive! It is really excellent for a universal zoom of > than 10X zoom range, huh? Yes, I hear you about expecting the unexpected. Thanks for posting those images!

Near High Noon with the shuttle stalled for a couple hours on top of the hill on Crenshaw Blvd. heading north. Shot at 300mm, but cropped to the AOV of a little more than 600mm, 1/400, f/9, ISO 200. Being on foot most of the time, all shots are hand held unless otherwise noted.

What a street party! What a sight seeing the shuttle on the street of LA .

Now, at 300mm the lens seems to start "loosing" its punch for my taste. I realize that you crop the image and that the lighting conditions are not great. Still, not bad at all.

Joshua -- Ha-ha! This is the absolute worst lighting possible -- high noon, sun almost directly overhead, with me facing due south. So, I'm happy it held together at all in the details of the image, especially at around 700mm equivalent. Certainly not for 'offical" publication.

Thanks Peter! Here's a few pijin shots.

Here's a few from the night before.

Stan -- Terrific shots!! We probably crossed paths several times on Friday and Saturday.

Looking forward to seeing more of your great work with the shuttle.

The often overlooked, super-important part of the Space Shuttle (nice shot from you Stan!):

^^^ Yeah, but these are fake

Glad you like the shots. I hope the best is yet to come, but the copy progress is slow and full of hardware problems (again)...

He was very personable and credited your image-making skills. "Damned good photographer!" he said, when I mentioned I'd put together the dots and said "wait, I know of Stan!"

My only comment for Scott, and he realized this as well, was that the shuttle launch photography bit needed the preface: "we are using alternative methods of tripping shutters because we can't use radio triggers..."

The seismic ones were cool.
