p.1 #1 · Please post images taken with Canon 24-70mm Mark II

After two weeks of traveling and yes, taking pictures, of course in 4 Southwestern States, I really had the chance of trying out the new lens. I took close of 2K images (out of 3+K) using only that lens during that trip and that lens did perform really well. It is worth the price? It is up to the individual user but I don't want to be without this lens, for sure. It is definitely a worthy match to the 70-200mm Mark II. Combined the two lenses with a 17mm TS-E and a 1.4X TC you got yourself a very capable all around setup.

It is flare resistant alright and the star burst of bright light sources in the frame are rendered nicely. Well, the shape of the moon below is somewhat elongated due to time exposure. However, I noticed vignetting on images taken at aperture of less than f/5.6 in the upper corners of images showing bright areas, such as the sky. Not as severe as the 24-105mm but it was definitely visible. The current LR 4.2 hasn't listed this lens' profile and as such, no automatic correction can be done at this point.

Here is a selection of 8 images to get this going. Everyone, please feel free to post your images taken with that lens on this thread.

Thanks,
Joshua

Loving mine too. These are great images, especially like the Mesa Arch shot. I need to try a sunstar shot myself.

I find vignetting correction is even required at f8, I use 20. This is not unusual for non TSE lenses. My 35L needs it too, but ACR does it automatically. I am also hoping for lens corrections in Photoshop for this lens.

AGeoJO,
Great shots. Especially like the Mesa Arch shot. You shot it at f8 and it appears very sharp from the arch itself to the La Sals in the background. Pretty amazing. Can you tell me where your focus point was...on the arch itself?

Thanks,

Jim

Thank you for your kind words, guys.

T-Bird, I used the liveview mode on that shot and basically on all shots taken there. I don't remember exactly where the AF point was aimed, I believe more on the rear edge of the arch. For sure not the front part of the arch nor on the rock formation in the background.

Everyone, please feel free to post your images taken with that lens on this thread.

Thanks,
Joshua

Guys, I really appreciate your nice comments - Thank you very much.

Leon, Jim,
I tried the Tamron before and while it is no slouch but considering my age and the condition I am in right now, I went for broke and bit the bullet and went for this lens. I will put my 24-105mm lens on sale before too long .

Thanks for the nice comments, guys!

skibum5 and VKM2F, those are great images! Look at the clean star burst of the last image .

Michelle, I know you live in Colorado but it didn't dawn on me that you are actually in Durango. I would have said "hello" to you had I known that. I stayed two nights there and drove to Mesa Verde from there. Let me tell you that I was impressed with your "backyard" . What a beautiful area of the country you live in! The fall colors are absolutely gorgeous and our timing was close to perfect.

Thanks,
Joshua

Is everyones 24-70II much sharper wide open @ 70mm than the original version? I like the size/weight reductions but I'm hearing mixed reviews on how much better the IQ is compared to the old version.
