I kinda think how this is going to go but let's see anyway.
Thinking about taking advantage of the B&H deeal of the 5DIII+24-105.
I shoot mostly sports and wildlife which is why I am torn. Is the higher MP and better AF enough to out weigh the extra reach and speed of the 7D?
Also have a Yellowstone trip in the works.
I would more than likely have to unload the 7D since I am not a pro and it would be really hard to justify. I also have couple APS-C only lenses that would help as well.
Is the 5DIII really that much better for my situation?
I have both a 7D and 5DIII and I shoot landscape to wildlife. You will notice the FPS difference between them. The 24-105, which I have, matches nicely with the 5DIII. If you are not focal length challenged and you can live with the reduced FPS, I’d go w/the 5DIII. Having said that, I can’t see myself ever giving up the 7D, for some wildlife situations it is nice to have alongside the 5DIII.
Sports and Wildlife are just not the 5D3's real strengths. I would agree that the best thing for you to do would be to wait a bit longer to see what Canon has in store for the successor to the 7D (and the 1D4).
I have both, generally using the 7D only when I'm seriously focal length limited.
The 5D3 is a very competent sports/wildlife body; if you're not focal length limited with it, you'll likely be happy with the switch.
But if you are focal length limited frequently, I wouldn't switch (but having both is an excellent way to deal with the strengths/weaknesses of the two; they're very complementary).
