p.1 #1 · Mac Mini w/ OS X server

I am thinking of ordering the highest end Mac Mini but it comes with OS X Server. Can Photoshop CS6 run on Server or can I just uninstall Server and put regular OS X on that model of Mac Mini?

Yes the server will run CS6 just fine. But the non server with a I7 chip is going to be faster. You can add a second hard drive to the non server boot a ssd and the store all your other stuff on a spinning drive.

Personally I would just do it myself and get faster cpu more memory better graphics and usb3

Does the Mac OS EULA allow users to install the OS on non OEM (non Mac branded) hardware now? This was not permitted in earlier versions if I recall correctly.

So the Apple EULA still restricts installation to Apple branded hardware only, I'm guessing?

EULA or not, the amount of people building hackintoshes for high end music and video seems to be growing by leaps and bounds because of the Mac Pro situation.

For personal use its probably not a big deal for some people. But for a business/commercial enterprise to be running unlicensed software is a different story. As you said, Apple does not currently sell a high end workstation; their Mac Pro machines use technology that is three generations old and continue to remain stupidly overpriced. Can you imagine how much Apple would charge for serious workstations running dual Socket 2011 octo-core Xeons once/if they get around to using current generation hardware?

My two cents…

For the record PassMark’s CPU Benchmark

Server (quad core) i7: Score 6233
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-2635QM+%40+2.00GHz&id=874

Non-Server (dual core) i7: Score 4204
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-2620M+%40+2.70GHz&id=872

But if you don’t load the CPU with a lot of tasks, then you are not going to "see" much of a difference and benefits with Quad Core CPU

I would buy neither, if you really want-need Mac Mini the new ones are coming (announcement) in few days, so I would hold-of.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,
Misha
