p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Going to Germany for a tradeshow, what to bring

Ill be flying to Germany for the first time in Nov. Ill be in Stuttgart for 3 days, then 1 day up to a small town near Jena.

Considering Ill need work clothes and work laptop.. I wont have much room for camera stuff (nor time to use it)

So Im trying to decide if I should bring my 5DIII w/40mm pancake + maybe the 14mm 2.8 or just pack my 24-70, or leave it all behind and go with my S110IS. (ha)

If you were going, what would you bring. I would love to pack my new 17TSE but i think thats to big to bring along. Course its not much larger than the 24-70 and the 40 fits in a pocket. Course my 35 1.4 would be nice for inside the beir halls Ugh! Decisions!

I'd bring a Carl Zeiss Jena lens.

P.S. It's your call.

No need to "ha" your S110IS. Doesn't matter how good the SLR is if it's not with you: For trips when I'm worried anything will be too big, my first priority is to take a pocketable camera so that I know I can have a camera with me all the time. So I would take the S110IS.

I would leave the 35 1.4 at home: you've got good high-ISO in the 5DIII, so the only other thing you'd want that lens for is the 1.4, and I wouldn't find that useful for the stated scenario. If you want wide in the beer hall you'll probably want wider than 35, and if you don't need wide then the 40 will probably be great.

I don't know enough about Stuttgart to help narrow it down beyond that.

I always just travel with my Ricoh GRD IV when on business and looking to capture the trip. It has never failed me. Come back with awesome shots, good quality and most importantly you never miss the shot cause its in your pocket. Photography trips and family trips.. well thats when the 5D is brought and enjoyed : )

Have fun! I just came back from Munich and Mainz for work...Beautiful places.

Heavy gear. East Germans are evil

If you have still space in your luggage, take the 24-70. Otherwise, go with the 14/2.8 and the 40 mm lenses.

I can feel you - when I travel to go to conferences, I travel light and have not a lot of space for camera gear. That's why I kept my Rebel XT (small body) and Sigma 10-20 plus Sigma 28-300 lenses. It gives me a decent compromise of what I can carry with me for a few days with low weight and decent IQ.

Just got back from Germany (Photokina). Also toured Italy, Czech, & Poland.

Had my 5d2, 17-40, & 135L

I cannot remember a shot that I was thinking, "if I only had my (insert lens)".

It is my standard travel package and it ROCKS

I'd bring 24-70 with 5DIII. The less the better in this case.
