Some handheld 1DX + 600 f/4 IS MkII shots.
Please do not wait for my complete 600 II lens review, I am very slow with deciding on what to say, let alone with writing it all down.

The lens wide open, ISO 1600 used for all shots, no NR of any sort except on the 4th image, second post.

Edit: as of this time 612 views of the thread means that all FM Canon gear forum regulars have seen it and then some. Therefore, I reckon the images are not needed any longer.

Jerry, that's all that picture would be good for.....an avatar.
I guess we better enlarge it so that people can see some detail.

You've never seen any Image Quality from past Canon bodies? That's a little hard to believe.

Thanx Michael, yes the same old JPG process as before, except that I have detuned the intensity a bit on the Standard picture style of 1DX, and probably will have to do more of that, so that in the end, 1DX will hopefully give me similar type image to 1DsMkII, except with better WB.

Number 3 is stunning! Regardless of the gear used, it's a wonderful image. I would love to see it large.

Gents, your kind feedback is appreciated. As we are getting into the peak of fall colours, both water and land are full of beautiful reflections and OoF blurs.

Here's two more, the same setup, f/4 and ISO 1600. The 2nd image was NRd.

Gorgeous shots Peter. So what happened to you being happy with 500 II and an 800? Grats on the 600, glad to see you're enjoying it. I took my 600 out today and saw some Northern Harriers and Ferruginous hawks but they weren't quite close enough to get sharp shots. After Arash's findings I'm really thinking of getting a 2x III instead of just the 1.4x III.

Pogi, though pointless for me to own, your photos are perking up my interest with the 600 II.

And do not worry about noise. It does not show as prominently on print as it is on the screen.

Thanx......I might not keep both 800 and 600....in fact, they both give too much reach for me much of the time since 1DX has such a phenomenal reach already, and moreover, I try hard to get close.

In fact, I am becoming increasingly convinced that 500 II (and 1.4xTC MkIII in the bag) is just about all that many people, including myself, would need, particularly so on a camera such as 1DX (and probably 5DMkIII to a large extent).

Hi Peter
Superb shots!
I've been doing a bit of comparison work with my 1Dx and Mk4 on my 800 and seeing how final crops compare.
How have you found the X for cropping.
I'm finding the X is getting better final images when cropped into by 30% or so which is around the 1.3 crop factor of the Mk4.
Seems the extra quality in the X files in many lights gives as good a final image when cropped as an uncropped Mk4 file.
IE there is no benefit from keeping a mk4 other than F8 for converter work..
