p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Has anyone tried the Sig 12-24 on a D600?

I have a D600 and wanted to find a set up that works for UWA. I am testing a 12-24 II sigma lens and it will not connect, or at least shows 0 for the aperture.

Any ideas on this?

Here is what I see….

Have you contacted sigma?

Curious about this one.
Please keep us updated.

Probably a stupid question David, but have you tried cleaning the lens contacts?

Wow. Sigma have achieved the impossible

DOF must be insane on that lens.

Seems to me that Sigma has had problems in the past with firmware mismatch between their lenses and newer Nikon bodies. You'll probably end up sending the lens to Sigma for firmware upgrade..

That was the firs thing I did. Well that and checked that the aperture lever was not stuck or bent.

I subsequently tried it on my D700, and D7000. It did the same thing.

I am returning it and trying another as I really want the 12mm FF lens.

I had a 50-500 sigma that did the same thing, something electronic. I also made sure the contacts and lever were fine.

Thanks for that. I think I just got a bad one.

Trying again…

It's pretty good. Corners will be a little soft at 12mm, but not bad. (Not any worse than 16-35mm corners at 16mm). Has some field curvature issues just like the 8-16mm. Isn't the most sharp wide angle available for fx though (like the 8-16 is for dx). I don't have one, but have used one, sorry I have no pics though. Maybe I'll change my 16-35mm out for one at some point if I get bored of it. Prolly not, though. I was going to get one when I switched to fx, but decided 16-35mm + if I needed wider, a 14mm 2.8 samyang, would be a more versatile way to go. Still....

Downside is no filters (unless you rig something, if you search POTN forums for 8-16mm filter you can find my ghetto rig I used on my 8-16). There are some available filter adapters like there are for the 14-24mm but they are HUGE and a bit big for fittin in the backpack.

All in all good lens but not as good as the 8-16mm is for crop, in my opinion. Make sure you check for decentering, same as the 8-16mm!

I had one on my D600 and I really liked it for its price. My copy was very sharp at f/8-f/11 and distortion was very well controlled despite its crazy FL. Flare was really really bad! I read somewhere that you can easily customize a filter kit using Cokin Z holder, 95mm ring and the part that attaches to cap/hood. I will post pictures later tonight.
