Didn't do that for me, but I use individual catalogs for shoots.

Thats not a bad idea, so you just create one right after import? Don't you have to restart LR when you switch catalogs

No, you start a new catalog before import. I do this for each shoot. After the job's done, I import my 5 stars into another "5 Star" catalog for personal use during marketing, etc.. (I import them from one catalog to the other)
