Calling all Sigma owners. I'd like to know your thoughts.... I've owned and shot with the Sig 180mm v1 and loved it. Sold it awhile back and I'm looking to pick up either one of the lenses mentioned above. Is the extra 30mm worth the $600 increase?
If you own the 180mm why did you choose it over the 150mm?
If you own the 150mm... what are your thoughts about the lens?
I have the 150 OS and it is a wonderful lens, almost a match for my 135L for portraits! I went from a Tamron 180 to the Sigma. For me it would be a weight/price choice. I really don't miss the extra 30mm at all. The Sigma is almost flawless for what I use it for (bugs, flowers, etc.) Plus, because the bokeh and sharpness are so good, my 135 stayed in the bag for the last wedding that I did.
I love the 150 v1, so the 150 OS is what would get my vote. It's extremely versatile, both on its own and in conjunction with a TC and or tubes....throw in OS and its all the more so.
I had the Sigma 150 OS which I sold for a Canon 100L and (soon to buy) Sigma 180 non-OS. I can testify the 150 OS is an incredible lens and worth the money, especially on the used market. But it isn't exactly very hand-holdable so I decided to go 100L for flexibility and the Sigma 180 for longer shots which will obviously need to be mounted on some kind of support.
Apart from the extra stop, the OS at 180mm and that much weight (these two lenses are built better than recent Canon L lenses) will be near useless at anything but normal telephoto use. I would go for the 150mm each time.

I have never heard of a telephoto lens of such a moderate focal length needing support.
I own the 100L and 150mm OS myself. Not sure I'd want to cart the 180mm f2.8 around as much as I've been carting my 100L and 150mm :-) Though I'm confident that the 180mm f2.8 is a really nice lens, also.
Many thanks for the input all. I shot the older 180mm hand-held a lot without issue. I did use a monopod when using the 1.4xTC and the flash. Keeping things steady with the extra weight could be a challenge at that focal length.. and shooting close to 1:1.
I might give the 150mm a try.... not sure the extra 30mm is worth the $600 for the 180mm, I can add a 1.4xtc for 1/3 the cost.... so...
