p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fast glass on 1D3 (35L, etc.) & request for sample pics

How well does fast glass like 35L, or 50/1.2, etc. work with 1D Mark III? Are the outer focus points good for wide aperture shooting (much better than 5D2)? I have 5D2, but I like using outer focus points and they just don't always work well in my shooting conditions... I'd rather put the lens on 1D3 if it will have less trouble focusing accurately w/ outer points.

I have mostly used MF lenses for wide aperture photos - Samyang 35/1.4 and Oly 50/1.2. Thinking about picking up 35L or maybe even the 24L.

Would love to see samples of family pics, etc. with 1D3 and faster glass.

Thanks!
Michelle

My 1D3 outer focus points are fast and accurate even with the f4 of my 24-105. They're super fast and accurate with my 28f1.8, 85 f1.8, and 70-200 f2.8L IS II. The outer points are cross-type with 2.8 or faster lenses.

Thanks - I have been suprised - no 35L and 1D3 commentary, flames or otherwise!

The 1D3 was my first body with AF micro-adjustment. I found the outer points as accurate as the center with wide aperture primes. A few years back when the 1D3 was one of my wedding cameras (along with sports), I posted a few shots done with the 35L and 50L, but I don't have anything handy right now. The combination worked reliably. The 5D2 is superior in some obvious IQ ways, but for shooting candids in changing light, using outer AF points, it's not in the same league. The 5D3 is another story.

Thanks Photon! I can swing either a major glass upgrade or a body upgrade... Glass just sounds like more fun.

Here's one with the 1d3 and 85L. I thought it focuses fairly well. Not the best pic however...

It's good with fast glass. I have used mine with my 24/1,4--50/1,2--85/1,2 for many years without any real problems. And also sometimes with Zeiss fast glass and MF

I love the 35L on the 1DIII and my 85/1.8 ain't bad on it either...
Some of my favorite images were taken with the 1DIII+35L
