p.1 #1 · T Mounts, telescopes and the 7d/5dIII

Hey Gang,
I used to do a bunch of work with my old FD bodies with my telescope with a T-Mount adaptor, and Canon always covered how in their manuals

Of course, today they say nothing. I'd love to break out the scopes and try some photos with the new gear. Any info out there?

I believe you just need an adapter from EF to T-Mount or from EF to FD (and use your old adapter)?

The easiest solution is probably a T-mount to M42 adapter, combined with a M42 to EOS adapter. For example, ...

It is best to go with the direct adapter that takes you from the EOS camera to a T mount. So if you have telescopes with T threads, here is the link to a simple and low cost adapter:

http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=802&kw=canon eos t&st=2

There are times where you do not want to add any un necessary length to the system with multiple adapters, because you may not be able to focus in all cases with the extra length. Thus the recomendation for a single adapter.

As a future note, for a full frame camera, you can get some loss of image in the corners because of the size of the hole through the middle of a normal style T adapter. There are some special solutions that can attach an EOS full frame camera to many telescopes, and maintain a full opening that fills the whole sensor.

It's not hard to find one. I bought an EOS adapter to replace the FD one I had been using way back when I bought my first 20D. I just went to the local source that sells the better brands of telescopes & they had it in stock. Don't remember the price but it wasn't much.

+1. Shop the telescope stores and find a EOS to t mount adapter. You can find many versions. I have one that goes i the eyepiece holder just like an eyepiece would. Just make sure your scope's mount can secure the weight of the camera.

Many eBay sellers who sell mirror lenses such as the 500mm f/6.3 and so on offer T-mount to EF adapters as well. I actually have one to use with the lens mentioned.
