#3 and #7 were my favoured. You have connected with your "subjects".
The contrast, however, should be corrected. It's very hard here.

My approach to the locals of countries I visit is basic: friendly, smiling, non-manipulative, quick. I gesture with camera that I'd like to take their pictures. 99% of the time, the people oblige; they look at me with whatever expression they choose, and I take a couple of fast shots. Then I smile my thank you, and walk away.
The term "Should be" is a difficult term

Yes, there is an abundance of contrast: the winter sun was hard, the film was contrasty Kodachrome.
But the people in Uzbekistan live in that hard and contrasty sun.
My photographic goals when I travel abroad are primarily to be as honest as I can be with the pictures- not try to make studio-quality portraits.
Opinions on this vary, of course.
Happily, the photographer gets to make the final choice

hi charlie,
in order to by-pass the bad use of idiom, i'll rewrite the sentence:
the contrast could be mitigated, so the viewer could enjoy those gorgeous faces.

Amber sounds really exotic, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. This was a food market, and I think those clumps in front of the woman were a hard, sugary thing. I didn't sample it because (among other reasons) eating strange foods when half-way around the world from home can be potentially disastrous. I had taken an American tour group in New York, and we were on a 6-week tour of the USSR (back when it was still the USSR). To get sick would have been seriously negative.
Okay, I'll try to lighten the man's face in #7, but my skills at such things are at best iffy.
I'll add the edited version by about 6:10 PM Pacific time.

Sorry- I tried, but there simply wasn't any detail on the right side of the man's face for me to work with.
Probably because the original contrasty slide was a bit underexposed- in addition to other considerations I previously mentioned.

The first image sort of set the scene- the exotic center of Asia.
But hey- 9 out of 10 winners... I'll take that any day
