Woooaawww!!! 5DMK3 simply can't touch the D600 iq performance (D600 it has the same sensor like Sony A99).And all at almost half the price !!!

Ready to switch?

I don't really care much to read reviews of Nikon cameras and how they performs. Mostly, I look at their specs, compare to what Canon offers and question why Canon doesn't do the same. I have a bunch of Canon glasses and don't plan to switch anytime soon.

Yesterday, I went to the Nikon forum for the first time and saw a lot of people complained about their new camera lineup--feel like a toy, bad AF performance and such. So, I guess we always have unhappy people on both camps.

The review here says the AF of D800 (Yes! D800) is "sloppy"

http://gizmodo.com/5897968/nikon-d800-review-a-major-hd-upgrade-but-is-it-the-best-dslr-for-the-money

"The high-resolution sensor was an awesome and potentially visionary addition to the camera. Nikon should have developed an auto-focus tailored to make it work. Instead, they reused existing technology. Yes, this is a pro's camera, and most photographers won't expect it do all the thinking on its own. But this feature just seems sloppy."

That's pretty convincing to me to stick with Canon.

I know about Nikon's fiasco with their AF sistems on D7000,D800 & D4,but I cannot stop asking myself why Canon in all these years it couldn't keep up with latest technology and in fact in the last 7 years ,the DR from their sensors is almost the same and they couldn't get rid of the banding in shadows areas.I've never considered a switch since I can't give up my 24-105L, my 70-200 2.8 (non IS), my 135L and 85 1.8 and thei are not the only reason, Canon simply fits well in my hands. But this doesn't mean that you cannot wish for more.

DXO gives the 5D3 an ISO score of 2293 and and the D800 a score of 2853.

We know this is complete and utter BS.... The 5D3 is a full stop better than the D800.

No surprise that Canon is in a world of hurt in the sensor department. IF Nikon releases the real D700 replacement, something along the lines of the 24MP sensor, 7fps, Pro AF, etc. for a price near $3500 it's going to be TKO....

Yet again "people" ignore all of the actually differences between two cameras and camera systems and think they're buying a sensor.

I actually do give up.

It's not worth trying to make "people" realise that for many areas of photography the difference in IQ are tiny and insignificant. If you're in one of those areas, it's good news for you, but you can't compare a mini 1dx with a prosumer camera and just look at the sensor performance.

DXO Mark ranks Canon below Nikon consistently... This can't be a big shock to anyone.

Phil, some people actually do care about sensor performance. A skilled photographer can use a modern camera from the last 5 years can do anything a 5DIII and 1DX can, but a skilled photographer cannot create extra DR/MP/less noise, etc...that's up to sensor.

Artsupreme, Nikon considered D800 to be the D700's succesor.

Point me to a review that proves this. All reviews I have seen have had them equal. Maybe canon had a slight edge over 6400 but at the cost of smeared detail.

I understand that and I didn't say it wasn't important, but you cannot compare a 5d3 and a d600! They are completely difference cameras for different reasons and to bring the price difference into the equation relative to the sensor differences is totally - totally - missing the point of the camera. It doesn't make the 5d3 bad - just not the camera if you need to capture lots of dynamic range at low ISO. That's literally all it means.

Now if you want to capture sports, weddings, take it out in the rain, guarantee image delivery and so on the 5d3 is the better camera.

The d800 "beats" the d4 too and that's half the price.

Yes, I understand that but I'm speaking from a spec/performance point of view - basically something in between a D800 and D4 with less MP than D800 and more speed.

Yeah, i understand what you are saying. I think the OP is just pointing out that Nikon's bottom of the line FF body now has a better sensor than anything Canon has, this is obvious.

In the same line of thinking we are waiting for a "true" 1D4 replacement as well.

Agreed...but I believe they felt they couldn't deliver more MP without serious IQ degradation for a pro body
