Some great shots there. And it is true... the nifty-fifty does have the potential to provide some outstanding shots.

Awhile back now, I bought PetKal's '87 EF 50mm and it's a stud, not a dud.

Especially true in gear forums, where a too-large percentage of folks sometimes confuse gear acquisition with photography. ;-)

It always brings a smile to my face when I see articles such the one below that illustrate the notion that it's not what you have but how you use it. Sometimes it's good to take a step back from our lust for gear and be reminded of this.

Excuse me, Dan, you have lost me there.....I have always thought that gear acquisition is not only an integral part of photography, it is also a neccessary prerequisite of photography. i.e., no gears, no pictures, yes ?

Gear is to photography what violins are to music.

Photography is the activity, I mean you need a bat to play baseball, but the bat is just one piece of it.

Acquiring a bat doesn't mean you suddenly become a baseball player. Acquiring a camera doesn't mean you suddenly become a photographer.

I don't get that. Photography is impossible without gears.
In contrast to that, music sounds even better without violins.

Oh yeah ? Here is a version of a movement from one of the "firmament" concertos in the classical violin literature.
