Handheld 1DsMkII + 800L at 1 over 250 sec. Try that with 600 f4 non-IS + 1.4xTC and see what you get.

Peter, that is the best green heron image I've seen. Do you own all of the lenses in this poll?

Thank you, Jason.
I do own all of them at the moment, but that might be in passing only........the ``accounting department`` boss wants me to drop 800 or 600, unless I sell some other redundant lenses, which I haven`t been able to do yet either.

Agreed with Jason, that is one heck of a shot, Peter . The lighting is just... magic .

Thanx, Joshua, I had my doubts about that series of shots because the bird was in a shade mostly, and I had 1DsMkII which was not exactly a high ISO champion. Therefore, I kept ISO to 800, and shot with lower than usual shutter speed from the kneeling position, and also shot JPG + RAW just in case. Fortunately, those birds move in real Slo Mo. There you go, one never knows.

Before I used the 300/2,8--400/2,8 & 500/4,5 lenses. Non of those are sharper or as sharp as the latest IS version. (but they are very good)

I haven't voted (I do own a 400 2.8 IS II) but just wanted to say that the heron shot is spectacular!

Thank you, Adam, glad you like it.

It is pretty much evident that 400 f/2.8 IS MkII is in a decisive lead, and I certainly agree with that. Both IS versions of that lens are in a class of their own, although one caveat is that I haven't got 300 f/2.8 IS MkII, therefore I can't tell about that one. However, in this poll we have followed the Canon's common definition of "supertelephoto" lenses which is 400mm FL and longer.

Peter, if you were picking 1 - 500 ii, 600 ii or 800 which would you pick?

If the photo is going to disappear, I think the commentary on the photograph should disappear, too. There is something not quite fair here.

Definitely 500 II because of its friendly weight, and it works great with 1.4xTC MkIII (IQ and AF)which is very often long enough for me. That is the only long lens that I have never mounted on any sort of a pod, very much like my old 500 f/4.5L, and I can walk around with it either in my arms or in the Tenba bag slung over my shoulder.

With time I will probably get rid of both 600 and 800, and retain 500II for its user friendliness, and also 400II for its overall excellence as well as very good 800mm f/5.6 ( i.e., 400 II +2xTC MkIII) when needed.

Agreed! Otherwise it is like going blind to a miss universe contest...
