I've made a couple of posts this week regarding my trusty, old Epson 2200. I'm having a hard time finding outdates Epson 2200 ink cartridges. I was thinking of going to refillable ink cartridges from Inkjet Mall (Jon Cone in Vermont), but the empty cartridges are no longer available.
Maybe its time to put my 2200 in moth balls and buy a used 2400 or 2880? Inkjet Mall has the refillable cartridges for both the 2400 and 2880. I would appreciate some opinions/thoughts on the 2400 and how much better it is than the 2200. I LOVED my 2200 and have printed some beautiful fine art prints of water color paper over the years. I know that the 2880 is a great printer, but I'm not sure I want to drop $500+ for a refurbished printer when I will not be using it very much. I can pick up used 2400's for around $150. I would love some feedback.

I had the same problem finding 2200 inks. They are not stocked in local retail stores anymore.
I get them from B&H photo. No problems, seem to always be in stock. Give them a try. $13-14. Can't see myself buying another printer, if it works well and ink is still available.

My 2200 needs major cleaning and I will not pay full price for ink anymore. I have had good luck buying out-dates inks on the net for about $5 per cartridge, but recently, these sources seem to be drying up as time moves on. That's why I am thinking of up-grading to a 2400 or maybe the more expensive 2880. I really wish that I could figure out how to clean the ink pad on my 2200 because it is using up ink way to fast.

The pad you are speaking of is the small rectangular wool pad under the print trolley? If that is the one, I clean it by absorbing ink from it with paper towels. When you first turn on the printer and the trolley goes full travel to the left, pull the wall plug and it will stop on the left of the platen. Then the pad is exposed and you can clean it. I think it can be removed also.
