I need to take my 40 out for some walk... it's nice but can't seem to replace the 35L... do love the size.. I may have to try this again with 7D...

Are you shooting with specs or with lens? There is tons of samples providing enough info about, lens is very good.

my point is that just because it doesn't seem that special on paper doesn't mean it's not completely awesome (which it is), and in the context of my post i was wondering whether or not this could be extrapolated to the new 24 and 28mm lenses.

in other words maybe the new lenses canon are releasing are all fantastic, even if they don't necessarily seem so on paper

Can anyone with experience of using L zooms give their impressions of the 40 2.8 in terms of color quality? I understand it won't match a L prime like the 35L, but how about say the 24-105L? How close are these two in terms of color when it comes to IQ?

I think it's about even with the 50mm f/1.4, that's my best assessment. I don't think it's as important as it used to be with PS/LR and all.

I remain very impressed with the 40mm F2.8 STM

this lens is sharp, with excellent color, contrast. etc.
the focus has been fine even with fast action on a 5D III
I enjoy using as it is so small and light weight

the Canon lens hood for the 40mm works well and keeps it small

no issue updating firmware to v1.20 on 5D III

best bang for the buck I have spent on Canon gear
