The sheep image again. This time sharpening in Sigma raw converter to minimum (-2.0).
Lightroom sharpening to 35 - 0,6 - 25 - 25.

Adjusted also the color more to my liking with a better white balance and less saturation.
Noticed also that saturated skies tend to drift to magenta towards the corners. Sounds familiar.

For Michiel, I shoot with neutral setting in camera.

Looks like job for CornerFix (magenta left side, cyan right side). I sorta hoped they eliminated this issue (as unlike SD1M it can have IR filter in different position).

Otherwise colors look better than I expected, guess DP2M is more advanced in certain aspects than SD1M.

I do not understand this, please explain

Hi Kibs, this phrase I expressed my opinion about 1 of the most annoying problems of Foveon : posterizing/banding.Ofcourse other brands camera can suffer it , but this phenomenon especially does a disturbing effect on an almost perfect Foveon's image, even it can destroy the1st good feeling of that picture. When one does a landscapes with bright cloudy sky and ample water surface, you'll see in the details magenta patterns called posterizing/banding, I personally don't get enough explanation about it , but it really appears on every Foveon's pictures. The posterizing/banding elimination in PS is another time- consuming process and do blurring never becomes a radical aproach.Sigma PP provides a perfect solution for that : noise reduction, with 2 clicks on chroma and luminance
you can eliminate this annoying effect. But this feature only for RAW format .X3F, and the new SPP 5.3.2 can do that at ISO 100 when the olders only at ISO 400.If you shoot .Jpeg and set it in FINE mode, the higher resolution you choose the sooner you 'll get posterizing/banding and noway to eliminate it in SPP.

Thank you very much, contas

I always shoot RAW, and do I understand you correct:

Now SPP 5.3.2 can eliminate it (iso 100) by clicking 2 times on chroma and luminance (must be a feature I have yet not seen in SPP)

Some of these look very good, others (like the latest round of grassy photos) appear to be over-sharpened to my eye. The skies in some also look very flat, as in 2-dimensional, almost like they were painted. Sometimes I get that with skies; it could be the lighting, but quite a few of these seem to look that way to me.

The 40 shots per battery is baffling me, am I reading that right?? If so, what the heck is draining the battery so much?

Very small and underspec'd battery first and foremost, combined with 3 layer Foveon sensor and the twin image processors needed to support it.

Think of it like trying to power a 17" gaming laptop with a cellphone sized power cell, you'll be playing for about 5 minutes tops before its dead

Luckily, Sigma uses the same battery a number of Ricoh compact cameras use so you can pick up spares for $10 or so.

Sigma DP2 Merill.

More experience with the raw files. Reducing the file sharpening in Sigma raw converter and in Lightroom.
Also adjust the tonal curve to get a bit more contrast in lights/highlights.

Less sharpening, more contrast in clouds

zoom in: more natural rendition of detail

I read that there might be some fit issues with some of the alternative batteries. My cameras shows up tomorrow - and I have pre-purchased some off brand batteries - so will let you know how they work.

Hello to all.

Battery performance of the Sigma DP2 Merill is very poor. I do around 40-50 images for one battery charge on average. Fortunately it is a common battery used also by Ricoh, Panasonic, Pentax, Fuji and Leica. Here is a link with all camera's mentioned that use this type of battery and a replacement alternative. Unfortunately in Dutch.

Herb, the foliage in that first photo looks good, but the tree trunks look a bit soft to me. Is that a DoF issue, or is that post processing?
