An update for pano-fans: I just ordered the Rotator Plus and the Midi NPA from PT4Pano.

The Midi NPA is the correct one for the DP2 Merrill, too, BTW, and not the Mini KISS, which some sites recommend. I intend to team this up with the little Benro "MeFoto" (who dreams up these names?) tripod for the ultimate portable kit.

I've owned a DP2 a few years ago. I liked the output, but the actual resolution of the files was too low. SPP also was a pain in the *ss. I sold it and never looked back... until now.
I installed the latest SPP and downloaded some DP2 Merrill RAW files. Wow.
These files look amazing. I've never seen so much fine detail. Even my best Zeiss lenses can't reach this level of detail.
With the Merrill you also have an actual resolution that's large enough. No more tiny photos.
The software certainly improved as well. Basic adjustments, export as a .tif to use in Lightroom. No real problems so far.

This makes me think. It could be a nice companion for my Fuji X-E1. When shooting in good light/from a tripod the DP2M slaughters the X-E1 (talking about fine detail). When the ISO goes up, it's the other way round.

JochenB: my kit is X-E1, CV/12/5.6 on Fuji X adapter, 35/1.4, Rokkor 55/1.2 (waiting for adapter, though), 60/2.4 (though focussing is slow, and DP2 Merrill.

Waiting on the PT4Pano gear; once it arrives I am set. I really did just want one camera, but the sensor gods say that is not to be. In the meantime, the X-E1 people files are magnificent (skin tones are rendered beautifully, and I have mine set to Auto 6400, something I was only ever able to do with the D3s), and I set shutter and aperture. Back to the future, I say.

Just in reference to the whining by Chris in The Camera Store video review posted above. I know a lot of that was him just playing devils advocate, but it's just funny - and annoying- to hear all the minor complaints given the ultimate image quality the DP Merrill's are capable of at base ISO in the right hands.

By the way, there is a rumor of a FF Foveon coming next year. Given that the DP Merrills surpass conventional bayer FF 24MP sensors and are very close to the best 36MP sensors at base ISO, a FF Foveon

Oh oké, got you!
A FF Foveon would be really fantastic! All those wishes one has, I am getting impatient
The existing little sensor is already amizing.

Plenty of boys around, playing with Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji etc.

Happy shooting,

I hope that's not the last boat out - but then again, you get the whole beach to yourself!

A step back a few weeks before any snow or weather that would freeze up Waskasoo Creek here in Red Deer, Alberta. A small stone in the creek was sticking through the surface just enough to stop a leaf. Soon, another stuck to that leaf and so on. Pretty soon we have a nice collection. Most of the leaves, though, went around and continued there journey towards the Red Deer River only a kilometer away.

No not yet. They are working on it. Use SPP and safe as TIFF and you can make adjustments in Lightroom or ACR.

Is there such a crazy test with DP2 Merrill vs Leica Monochrome?

I'm not aware of one. At base ISO, I would imagine they would be close. At higher ISO's, the Leica is going to be much better. The one huge advantage of the DP2 is, of course, it's full color sensor which, for B&W, will allow much more control of the resulting tones during conversion. With the Leica Monochrom, you're going to be using filters during exposure which are a bit more limiting.

There are some tests here http://soundimageplus.blogspot.it/2012/11/ultimate-quality-test-part-1-four.html against the Nikon D600, NEX-7 and OM D.

And here http://soundimageplus.blogspot.it/2012/11/ultimate-quality-test-part-2-two-camera.html against the Nikon D800E

I should add; it is mainly a test in sharpness! But that is what this camera is all about, isn't it?

So at low ISO in theory the DP2M would perform better?
And a test between DP2M and a Leica M9?

At base ISO it is already a tad sharper then the D800E, which has no AA filter as well, I believe, Like the Leica.
So it should probably be sharper then the Leica as well at base ISO

It will be for sure when Sigma is developing the firmware to extract real monochrome images from the Foveon sensor's output. This should be easy as the sensor is a monochrome sensor.(Quote from Vivek) And the probabbly will. They must have noticed the sale figures of the DPm's

But why you are so specially interested in this sole comparison?
