Very nice Michiel! There must be a lot of detail in there we cannot see on the web.
Sorry I am lagging a bit behind with stitching

Herb, what should be the strategy to avoid front/back focus...
Strangely, my camera seems fine...i couldn't see any focus issues...

nandadevleest,
I am quite confident this focus shift will be quite equal on all DP2M's.

However I did not check if the shift is consistent towards infinity, but in practice I did not notice anything
different.

I expect that the shift will almost always be compensated enough by the depth of field,
certainly at further distances.

Only in very critically controlled situations like here it can be shown.

It is possible that for instance with close portraits you could notice it when focussing on the eyes.
In that case it is wise to take some extra shots that are a bit front focussed. Perhaps on the tip of the nose...
As you have seen that depending on autofocus can give some unpredictable results.

Please also note it is nothing particular. It happens with a lot of camera / lens combinations.

I would say that if you did not notice it so far it is not a problem in any way. In case it will happen you know
that it is inherent to the design.

In the coming weeks I will try to do some macro with it and see how it will behave.

But again, no worries, happy shooting

Herb

Heyaa !! I'm playing around with Herb's tweaks in LR but I think I got it wrong ??

Most of the images posted in this thread are very good examples of the pixel-level sharpness the DP2M is capable of. This image doesn't really demonstrate that as there's really no micro detail in the clouds or silhouette to be shown.

However, this image is by far my favorite of this thread. To me, it's strength lies in the composition, framing, dramatic lighting, and tones; everything about this is outstanding.

This camera is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Recently I've been searching for a more portable system to take hiking (and on other adventures) this upcoming summer. Thought about the NEX / x-pro1 but that's all I need, another system to dump too much money into buying various lenses. The x100 is tempting but for a similar price point I this camera seems to blow it away.

Hulyss Bowman: your iso1000 shot sold me. The noise is not THAT bad (compared to my 5D and LX5) plus it looks gorgeous in B&W. I'm thinking this will be a nice tax return present to myself. By that time hopefully the price drops a bit and a better RAW converter is put out.

Again a revisit of my "catch" image.

The first version was with SPP neutral and Lightroom pp.
The second version was with SPP neutral and Capture One Pro pp.

In both cases I resized in one step without sharpening in the Lightroom output for the web.

Now I took the second version and tried to optimize for web posting. This can be tricky with the highly
detailed Foveon images. And of course computer screens and taste might differ.

On my screen this looks quite "real"

I'm not an expert on Analog photography, but this looks really like film grain. Very nice!

Here is another example of the extraordinary detail this camera is capable of.
I was just looking at this photograph when I realized these walls are full of nails.
Had not noticed it in reality.

That looks like it is enlarged from 100%. My D800 is capable of better 100% detail than this image has, and I have seen others that have more. Are you sure this isn't 200% or some other value?
