Everyone should just adopt SD cards. They're small, versatile, and plenty fast. They're even more durable because they use contacts instead of pins. All sorts of devices use them, not just cameras. And a reader is built into most laptops and even desktops.

you can break anything with the proper application of leverage and force. with SD it just requiress so little of either. so that means 1 hand (the weaker of the 2) using 3 fingers easy. not so easy with CF or XQD
SD cards split rather easily too down the glue lines of the 2 halves of the shell.
in still shooting: as pixel density move up and up i have to say most likely
in digital cinema: as HD turns to 4K which turns to 8K i'm gonna have to say most likely.
packageing size allows more usable physical space for higher density use.

Arrrgh. I cannot justify spending $2-3K or more every time the manufacturers screw around with the formats. I also don't want to carry three different types.
Right now I only have about 700GB of memory cards, but I'm not buying anything more until the goofy format wars are over.

i work for a living with it. sort of a necessary evil. and that's for 2 bodies. i still shoot like i'm doing film. don't need 30 shots of a snail. but then there are those moments where volume can count but then you pay later going over them.

I think Nikon has made a mistake - the fact they didn't put it in the D800 and Sony didn't put it in any of their recent announcements has the send a big warning flag up.
If find SD so delicate as to be highly suspect and inconvenient, so I'd love to see anything that small with better durability. Give me two of them and I'll be happy.
I still fail to understand the logic of dual slots of different types. I'm sure their engineers will tell me about their tooling/case design/other constraints, but sometimes you tell the engineers "figure it out"...

Most SD readers and devices won't handle the newer SD formats such SDXC and perhaps SDHC. These formats change faster than I want to change computers or photo storage/viewer devices. It's not so bad to replace an external card reader with something that is now mainstream (and therefore cheap) but the newest formats are far from being mainstream. Also, not all computers have the necessary device interface such as USB 3 needed to get the best out of the card.
Some of the newer SD cards have comparable read speeds to newer CF cards for less cost/GB but they seem to have slower write speeds too. For in-camera use the write speed is more significant that the read speed so long as the camera is speedy enough to utilise the card capability, because it lets the camera clear the memory buffer faster.
