p.1 #1 · Is there any way for me to be sure not to be scammed?

I'm looking to ship my camera + lens to a possible buyer, who I get a bad feeling from. I know I shouldn't sell if I can't get a good feeling from them but they even agreed to pay gift option as I thought it would be scam proof for me (the seller). Is my hunch correct?? They agreed fairly fast which arrouses my suspicion.

If you get paid by PP gift, there's no way that they can come back and reclaim
the payment as it's a "gift".As far as speed of deciding some people just do that, decide fast and act fast.
My 2 cents..

And do I have to have my bank account linked or is having my credit card sufficient?

With all due respect, if you feel this lousy about the transaction, and you go ahead and carry it out, you're scamming yourself!!! OTOH, you've got the money, they've sent you a gift, so the chances are pretty good they are screwed if they claim they got an empty box, and, before you mail out the items, you've moved the money out of your PP account into an account that PP has no access to (you did set up your PP account so that they do not have access to your "real" bank account, I hope) in the remote event that some dweeb in PP decides to honor a complaint on a "gift" payment. Of course, you've arguably committed a violation of the TOS of PP by accepting a "gift" payment when it's really for "goods." Damn. Why would you want all this drama?

Remember the movie "Ronin"?

But if they hacked someone's account then paypal can come and reclaim the money for the actual account owner, no?

Another way to get screwed if you use the 'gift' option is the claim of the transaction being unauthorized. There has been a lot of this lately where a PayPal account is hacked. Since the payment is 'gift' there is no address associated with it and the item can be shipped anywhere. It's hard to reject an offer to buy but it's better than losing your gear.
