I'm in the thrills of the hunt for a new camera. My daily driver is a 5D3 but I want something I can throw in my pocket when going out for social things, or when I don't feel like hauling a big camera up a mountain on hikes.
My wife got me the Canon S100 for my birthday last month which I returned fairly quickly. While the size and f2 lens were great, it had some quirks. Shutter speeds could not go longer than 15 seconds and as soon as your shutter speed was longer than 1 second you can ONLY shoot at ISO 80. Combine that with weird ( and well documented ) ticking noises during the video ( presumably from autofocus ) and less than ideal sharpness to the images and I was left feeling unsatisfied.
I'm currently considering the new Panasonic LX-7 with it's f/1.4 - 2.5 lens, but I thought I would throw it out to the community to see what everyone uses in terms of an advanced point and shoot. Fuji X-10? Canon G-12? Sony RX-100? etc..
For me, it needs to be small enough to justify not just bringing along my DSLR. The Fuji X-10 seems like it may be just a touch too big, but again I would love some input.
For those that use their iPhone, that's cute, but I'm looking for something with more power and control than that.
Suggest away!
