I am really having a problem with 1DX.......too much "reach" even with a 500mm lens.
I might as well sell anything over 400mm FL if I continue to use 1DX.

Handheld 1DX + 500 f/4.

Well Peter, not all of us have raised wood pijuns from little ducklings and trained them to swim within the MFD of the super telephoto lenses

For the rest of us we need that reach. For yourself it looks like the 200 f/2 is all you need

Great shots

Again, on 1DX even 200 f/2 IS is more than amply long for slow and big birds.

Okay I think I've figured this out, Peter must be fluent in several dialects of pijuneze, has a super secret taylor that makes him life like "Tree" replica suits; oaks perhaps or more likely ... Peter is the "Invisible Man"

Wait, an underwater housing, a wet suit, a small reed; breathing tube, no this won't work, how would he see his pijuns...no way, x-ray eyes..."Superman"...no the blue/red suit would scare pijuns away...hmmm?

Give it up Peter...who are you?

As always Peter, stunning images! I've no clue how you get so close but keep doing so

Thank you, Jerry.....just trying to follow my belief that proximity to target beats FL any day.

Proximity is my only game, thus only the elusive city/landscapes, flowers n such are shot
That Drake image you posted was beautiful, the water ablaze with Autumn's fire and your pijun in perfect focus!

Peter,

Why do your birds seem to be four times larger than those south of the border? Are they feeding in the cooling water of a power plant?

Jerry, when you consider all the years I have spent working in nuclear power plants, I should be glowing myself, never in need of a night time flash.

+1

I am also intrigued by the amount of water Peter's pond has. Where I live all I see is mud flats full of Canadian Geese

Shreeni, my ponds and marshes are connected to lake Ontario......lottsa water there, although at times the wave action builds a dam which might isolate the marsh from the lake temporarily......when that happens, we get mudflats as well.

Peter, I doubt as many years as you worked, but from the day SONGS (the San Onofre power plant) went online I was out in it's warm waters, this was the summer of 69, I continued to surf there until summer 78, last I checked my only glowing is in my heart

Those warm waters brought with them a plethora of marine life, sharks, sting rays, an abundant variety of fish and on rare occasion a single or group of dolphins. It's a truly humbling experience seeing master surfers as they frolic about, effortlessly gliding beside, all around you...no flash required indeed, a flashback perhaps!

Skibum, your Vermont is gorgeous - excellent Work...

I'll post a dose of reality for Peter; here is how "normal" people see woodies, just before they fly away...
With a 500 f/4L and 1.4 extender...
