I just bought a 5D II new last week for less money than the 6D and I will be making photos with it for the months before the 6D ships. I have no regrets and I'm thrilled with it, especially in combination with the 100-400L and the Tokina 16-28 f/2.8.
I'm frankly staggered by the AF specifications. The 7D's AF system was the minimum for this body. A single center cross-point is an insult. That's the single most significant issue with the 5D II. I feel like we've gone back to the Elan 7.

I would've been satisfied with the 50D/60D/latest Rebel AF.

I use to shoot sports, and I don't think I've ever used a 1/8000s shutter speed in my life. I rarely used anything beyond 1/2000s. Unless you're trying to shoot a portrait at f/1.2 in full harsh sunlight, I fail to see why people are complaining about the top shutter speed.
I can easily get above 1/4000s when shooting my son's sports at f/2. I can see how for some it wouldn't be a problem, for me it's a big one.

You probably got a better camera... for less... enjoy.

I wouldn't. Canon's been bifurcating 'bodies that can track movement' for years. I'm sick of it. I shouldn't need to spend $1500 on a crop body or $3000 on full-frame to deal with a moving kid, not in this market. Not with this competition. The 40D/50D are barely competent for this purpose. Even the 7D comes up short relative to the system Nikon was putting into the D300 three years ago.

Canon reinvents the crippled focus FF camera. Where's the Beef? No way a 6D will compare with Nikon's FF bodies all of which focus. What cynical marketeers!

Shooting mma with a 40d and 7d I yielded more keepers than a guy hooting with d300's...

Shhhhhhh. The fanboys and apologists will be on you if you speak the truth.
Maybe he wasn't a competent photographer. The D300 system is a somewhat slower version of that in the D3. Focus acquisition is faster on the 7D, but tracking, particularly of erratic movements, is a forte of the Nikon system.

Gee, well how about the option that I would like to actually know how the 6D performs and its cost, before making any stupid verdict
And some people can actually take excellent photos with a body that only focuses well with one centre-point.
It's not about what the camera can do, it's about what the camera should have, specially when compared to the competition's offering at the same price point.
Canon is getting a reputation (at least on enthusiasts sites like this) as a company that gives as little as possible but extracts as much (cash) as possible.....not a reputation any company should be promoting.
I happen to like my 40D and film bodies.....but if starting from scratch or only had a minimal investment in lenses and accessories.....I would be looking elsewhere now instead of automatically thinking 'Canon".
PS: I still have my first Canon FF bodies...two FTb QLs.
The poll seems like total knee-jerk opinion at this point. I don't see how we can draw any firm conclusions on the 6D, and especially its AF system, until we get some competent user reviews. Why would Canon put out a camera with an unusable AF system following its past experiences, which have all been largely exorcised with the recent 5D3 and 1DX? The 6D won't be up to those standards, but logic says it ought to do well enough on non-action subjects.
The poll doesn't apply well to me, who owns a 5D2, and would be choosing between it and the 6D, except not widest sense. I won't consider purchase of the 6D at this time, any more than I will the 5D3, although the 6D has a slight edge due to price.
If the poll were the hypothetical: "Would you buy a used 5D2 in great shape for $1500 vs. a brand new 6D for $2100?", I'd have to say that I would buy the 5D2 as it's a perfectly usable imaging machine. But there are features of the 6D that would push me choice if the price were $1700-1800.
A lot depends on what we find out in the next few weeks.

Right away, I like the 6D's controls, the toggle switch replacing the "joystick". I've come to really enjoy the controls and menu on the 60D, so this is another plus for me.

Agree with stargazer refuting jamesz's sniping.
And that's your right, which I support.
However, I maintain the right to refute your sniping and uninformed acceptance of what's offered. I also maintain the right to voice what the majority of people are finally coming around to understanding (apologists and slow learners excepted of course).
PS - please define sniping. I think you've confused it with telling the truth, which I can understand bothers many like you two.
