Larry: Thanks for the kind words. Both sights are within 4 miles of home. I finally found a got spot to shoot these sunrise scenes. So I hope to get #3 with better clouds in the sky, with the fall colors in the fg trees, and the fog and mist. But you know how that goes.
Wow, I see from your profile a Fed Geologist (ret); and better yet from Az. I've yet to shoot red rocks, and might try to catch up with you when I do. I'd love to hear your explanations of the SW rocks and sandstone formations. : )
Charles: Thanks for the comments. I'm in central NY, about 20 miles south of the Southern Adirondacks. Our good color won't arrive until mid to late October. In the southern Adks themselves, the color is just starting; the swamp maples are full red / pink, and the tops are getting color. Up in the northern part and high peaks areas, they should be prime over the next two weeks. I'll be checking things out each weekend, so PM me when you think you may be headed up, and the area you're looking at, and I'll let you know what I've seen.
Sneaky: Thanks for my first ever "sublime" description. (I've always wanted one.) : ) I generally avoid shooting technology, but the ambiance here made it irresistible.
Phil, Davis, tb: Thank you. I was very happy to find the location to shoot the scene in #3. I hope to make more good use of it.
Jim: Thanks. ALways good to hear from you.
Ute: Thanks. We're very busy here with Colden. He just turned 2 last Saturday. Be sure to let us know when you're stateside again.
Dean: I've only been in the southern Adks so far. The swamp maples are in full color right now, but that's in limited, wetland areas, and along some local rivers and bogs. I'm going to be going further north for the prime colors there -- Keene Valley, etc. They should be close to prime by the weekend and the following week or two. I'll check with someone there and let you know (PM me; or I'll catch you). Dave Fantle (Icypeak) is coming to NY 10/7, and we'll be spending 10/8 and 9 up in the peaks. Probably Avalanche and Colden on Monday and the AMR on Tuesday for the waterfalls. Let me know if that fits your schedule. Otherwise, let me know when you're in the 'daks, and I'll try to catch you. And thanks for the comments.
