My take on the tribute. I spent the evening at the various viewing spots.

From near the eastern end of the Manhattan Bridge

From Brooklyn Bridge park, near the Manhattan Bridge

A crop of the above where the beams look like "scratched Film". This is birds trapped in the beams. The following is from Wikipedia:
The lights have caused confusion for thousands of migrating birds, trapping them in the beams, and requiring that the lights be switched off for 20 minute periods to allow the birds to escape.[11] To ensure the lights do not affect migrating birds, the Municipal Art Society works with the New York City Audubon on the illumination.[12]

You did a lot of walking/driving around. Nice coverage.

Just a couple of thoughts though:
(1) the time on your exif shows you shot some of these around 5:20-40pm. However, at that time it should be plenty bright, it should not have come out like this. Check your camera time to make sure it is correct.

(2) These look more like they were shot around 8pm in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

(3) While the coverage was good, the shots seem to be underexposed and lack the sharpness that a Nikon D7000 should have. What lens were you using? In shot #1, you had f/4.5. In most cases, you would get much better sharpness in the f/8-11 range with a tripod doing 8-10 second shots at iso 200. Also, don't use your Live View to focus. Use the Nikon built-in 39-Point Auto-Focus System instead.

Hope you don't mind my CC. Thank you.

Thanks for the comments.

leung - I got to the Manhattan Bridge at about 8 PM and finished up in Hoboken about 1:30. Will definitely check the camera time. I purchased it used from someone in CA . I thought I had checked it but apparently not.

I will have a look at the processing again, both from the exposure and sharpness perspective. I have room to bump the exposure.

I was using the 17-55 2.8 so the lens should be fine. The only one that may have a legitimate reason for lack of sharpness is the first one taken from the Manhattan Bridge. It is amazing how much vibration there is on such a massive structure.

Thanks for the input.
