p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · DK-17M viewfinder installation question

I need and wanted a Viewfinder magnifier for my D800, since my eyesight is not what it used to be. Need any and all the help I can get, a DK-17M magnifying viewfinder sounded a great idea.

Received the DK-17M, I tried to take the standard viewfinder off of D800, but this thing is not coming off. I remember how I replaced the same viewfinder on my old D700 a while ago, it was just SNAP, came right off!

I removed the rubber-like eyepiece(easy), but the inner viewfinder just won't screw off. It did turn about 1/4 of a turn, but then it's STUCK. Won't turn no more.

Am I doing anything wrong? Please advise. Appreciated.

Steve

Turn the lever next to the viewfinder so that it closes up the viewfinder, and then you can remove that ring.

Yeah, you have to close the viewfinder shutter... took me a long freaking time to figure that out lol.

Done, thanks so much for quick help!

I don't think I had to this with my old D700...well, it's good to go.

Just a side not; I have one more post count than you, Mike

Than you must have had a custom build D700.

I'm thinking of buying one of these for manual focusing. Is it worth it?

I think so, I just put it on my D4 along with the dk-19. I am short sighted & with wider MF lenses I struggle to nail focus, I think this helps slightly.

I bought this to use my ZEISS lenses(of course they're MF) I have on D800. The live view on D800 is terrible(it really sucks! ), I'm relying on the viewfinder confirmation dot more and more.

And this DK-17M gives you a little boost, 1.2x magnification. For my aging eyes, it is well worth the $37.95 from BH, but YMMV.
