p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Impact of D600 on used D700 prices?

Once the D600 is available, where do you think D700 prices will fall to (for good condition units with 20-40k clicks)? Current market based on completed sales seems to be ~$1600 but there's a lot of inventory on the B&S board right now listed at higher prices.

There is a world of difference between holding a D7000 and a D700. I had both and the D700 is a much more comfortable camera than the D7000. It has a much more professional feel to it. Since the D600 uses basically the same form factor of the D7000, and most D700 owners are pretty happy with them, I doubt you will se a big drop in prices.....

Unless the D600 is insanely better in performance compared to the D700, I don't see a big impact in the long term. Short term, some people may try and make quick sales.

The D700 is a more robust camera compared to the D600. If you dont need the extra pixels, and video, I see little point in getting the D600 for approximately the same price.

Even better.... if those folks who were holding out for the D600, and are disappointed and decide to hold on to their D700's, do you think it will RAISE the used prices any?

Too early to tell. New cameras always slightly lower older however the D600 seems built for a slightly different market? Top SS of 1/4000 is that correct? Seems like a painful limitation if you had any hope of f1.2 in the daytime.

Well, I use a Singh-Ray Vari ND for those situations just fine. I don't think it's the end of the world.

I doubt it'll have any positive effect. If people were selling their D700s cheap expecting a $1500 D600, they cheated themselves IMO. I'd imagine prices will stabilize or go down, if a lot people D700 owners do upgrade to the D600.

If someone is coming from a D700, isn't the base ISO 200 on it and the D600 ISO 100? That would get you the same exposure for your daytime f/1.2 shots, right?

My guess is the D700 will go for $1400 on the used market about a month after the D600 hits the shelves.

If Nikon keeps up the rebates and lets the price of the D600 drop to <2000, the D700 may well sell for 1400.
I am not expecting anything below 1500-1600 average once the market is seeded with the D600s. (I know there are a few already selling for ~1450-1500)

If the D600 has AF issues... on the other hand

Well for one I won't be 'upgrading' from my D700 as I don't see it as an upgrade. Seems like a very cutdown budget camera. I would be looking to the D800
Really don't see where the D600 is going to sell, unless the price comes down - too close to the D800, in the UK anyway

Short term prices will remain the same for used until the D600 trickles into the market. The D800 kept the D700 prices high. The D600 wasn't the huge price killer, so it'll have to rely on usage reputation. If it turns out the camera is good. Then the prices will slowly drop $2-300 over the year for the D700. I figure the floor will be $1300 until another FX body enters the market or maybe a D300s Replacement comes out that makes people look at DX again for certain purposes.
