It is offical

http://www.nikon.com/news/2012/0913_dslr_01.htm

And based on this, I had the price correct at $2100. (I actually predicted between $2K and $2.2K)

http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/nikon-d600-body-only/4505-6501_7-35446299.html

Well, the only good news for me is that it leaves a big price gap between the D7K and the D600 .... just enough for a D400 at $1500? Who knows.

Have fun with the new body boys.

I usually let others be a guinea pig with new bodies, but I think I might have to be a guinea pig this time. Love the size. Hope for good DR

I was disappointed to discover(but should have known based on the Thailand origin) that this camera has the inferior rectangular finder attachment. The last camera I possessed with this feature was my D200, and it also had a plastic outer finder lens which scratched easily.

Disappointed with no MA.
Canon did it with the 60D to protect 7D sales.
I didn't expect Nikon to do something similar...

It's just software after all, no hardware necessary.

This was the camera I've been waiting for a long long time... except, no micro adjustment?
Hands up everyone who doesn't need MA for fast lenses. That's a deal braker for me.

I do not need MA now. My 5D II was calibrated by Canon. 70-200 2.8 L, 70-200 4.0 L, 24-105 4.0 L and 100 2.8 work perfect without MA. And my Sigma 50mm 1.4 does very fine after the frontfokus was calibrated by Sigma. Of course I do not know, how they will perform with a new body.

How do you calibrate your camera if every lens need different amount of MA? Do I need to send my lens collection for calibration? Knowing the current state of Nikon QC I doubt every D600 is precisely identical, having dual D600 can take some challenge if their calibrations don't match.

No MA == bad idea. I think even the D7000 has MA. Every camera/lens combo can be different and not having this is just terrible.

I do not know how it works for Nikons. With Canon (for me) it worked this way: New camera is checked an calibrated (if necessary) for free (warranty) at a CPS Partner. After you check a new lens and let it calibrate (if necessary) if you purchhase one.
Of course this is not working well for rented lenses. And yes, it might generate big problems with any additional body.

The camera does seem to have AF fine tuning available:

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d600/spec.htm

"Nikon Multi-CAM 4800 autofocus sensor module with TTL phase detection, fine-tuning, 39 focus points (including 9 cross-type sensors; ... "

Thanks for the update, snooked.
There were reports from some sources that claimed no MA.

I would say pulling a stunt like that would have been very un-nikon-like.
In fact, canon is very good at things like these and that was just one of the things that made me disappointed with them.

It is a enthusiast camera (I call it "prosumer"). If the DR is good, 3-shot bracket is consistent with the other cameras like it (D7K).

They should have called it a D8000...

For anyone grousing about the price:
Compare this body with the original D100 that some of you owned 10 years ago. At nearly the same price point. There is a lot to get excited about, no?

No doubt. Price is not bad at all.

I paid $1600 for the Canon 10D when it came out in 03. The D600 looks nice.

According to the specs on the Nikon website, it says it has autofocus fine tuning:
