I just joined today and im looking into getting a nikon d7000 and i was wonder what the quality of the video was

The video is great .... the only downside -- and I say this, because it is literally the only downside - is that you have to convert the video to work with most popular video platforms well.

Most popular NLEs like Adobe Primier or Vegas Pro or Movie Studio (now 64 bit and GPU enabled for most FX filters) do it just fine. Make sure you have a current computer (lots of cores and lots of ram/disk space) and you'll be just fine.

Even Photoshop CS6 does it very nicely with the video editing it has builtin now.

Correct me in I'm wrong but isn't there still an issue with the "rolling shutter effect" on HDSLR's?

Nowhere near as "bad" as a D90 for instance. (Rolling shutter)

The old addage, you get what you pay for still stands.

You want to have depth of field effects, smooth compression, great colours etc - DSLR's still the way to go for bang for buck.
