Understandable considering one of the draws to upgrading to the Series 2 super teles was the weight difference. The 1st and 2nd 300/2.8 IS only differ by 200g for $2,420 more.
That I tend to agree with. Clearly, there are several other minor improvements, and 4 stop IS may be considered a major one, depending on each individual's circumstances, however, that is still lottsa money for 300mm f/2.8 lens. Come to think of it, that kind of money can buy a (LN) 500 f/4 IS MkI, (LN) 400 f/2.8 IS MkI and even (LN) 600 f/4 IS MkI.
However, if 300 f/2.8 IS MkII works with 2xTC MkIII as well as 400 f/2.8 IS MkII does, then that might become the lightest high grade 600mm combo yet, thereby sweetening the deal considerably.
