Yes I know there are much better lenses for bokeh (I use a 50L and I just got an 85LII) but if I give-up IS or longer reach it would be mainly for shooting at f/2.8 so bokeh is quite important in my book.
Sharpness isn't everything, particularly when you shoot a 3D world at wider apertures so 99.9% of what you shoot is actually... bokeh
WOW. That is absolutely incredible. I didn't even realize it was the Nikon for a minute. Their sample images are actually amazing... and Canons are always garbage. That image just made me very envious

Unfortunately for Canon, I do agree with you, their sample images are seldom good technically, let alone in an overall photographic sense. The latest Canon pictures I've seen are those that showcase 6D. A couple of shots of a girl and a woman.....the first one is post processed to oblivion, the other one doesn't show anything in focus.

So far judging from these samples I'm not impressed by the rendition of this lens.
Maybe it is supersharp but the drawing is rather flat with average bokeh... many images from the previous version instead showed a nice 3D look rarely seen in a zoom.
I'm waiting to see more before spending so much money.
I think the look is anything but flat.
Bokeh is hard to comment on as we have no side by side comparison. It is difficult to judge subject to BG distances. We have to see how different lenses perform under the same conditions. It is quite easy to set up photos that make the 85LII @ 1.2 look worse bokeh wise than a zoom stopped to f/8! I personally like the bokeh.
Finally, some good shots. But they are a tad over processed to make any determinations about this lens.
Bokeh doesn't look very pleasing, but that could be because these were over processed too much or cropped down a lot. Do you have any shots straight from the camera to show.
Forced my daughter to sit for some test shots for me. I'm quite impressed with the new lens, though the old one was no slouch either.
1D X, ISO 400, f/2.8 at both 24mm and 70mm, handheld. Full frame images and then 100% crops. LR 4.1, default settings of +5 clarity/sat/vibrance, sharpening 50/0.8/30/0. No lens corrections.

Yes it's certainly a worthwhile replacement for the mk1. Now we just need one of the same quality in 16-35 ish range, and of course as a 50 prime
Awesome Shuttle pics. Shame they're being mothballed.
Impressive images so far. Did everyone get their pre-ordered 24-70 II lenses already. I'm still waiting for mine from the dealer in Palo Alto. Getting a bit impatient.

nope
It seems only a few copies went out to select stores the other week and that has been it. AFAIK no new shipments came in anywhere for it this week.
It wouldn't matter so much only summer is rapidly ending and then before you know it fall foliage will be over too. If it doesn't come in soon I will just cancel and wait for a bigger price break next summer since it will have arrived too late for all the main stuff I want to do with it now.
Here's a recent f/22 starburst shot from the vI lens for comparison. Ignore the size difference, since that's more about the exposure setting than the lens. It's more about the number of points and how clean they look.
