If we weren't happy with our D700s, we'd seriously consider these.

That's what I'm thinking, too (2x D700 here), but I do have a D7000 that could get replaced.

Doesn't mention specifically dual card slots, but probably?

I hear 2x SD, just like the D7000.

I want to believe the $1500 initial pricing, but in my estimation, it will price closer to $2K (definitely if it only sells as a kit at initial release), then settle down in 6-9 months closer to an affordable price for body only. By "affordable price" I mean something more entry-level (or transition-level for DX users) than the D700 was.

Does it say that? It would be the first Nikon if it did.

I'd say $2000-2200. It's got similar features to a D800, just smaller sensor.

Right, thats what I meant, just meant "smaller megapixels" is the only big difference.

I'm really really excited about this. If the sensor is similar to D800 then our last D700 is headed for retirement!

Fastest shutter is 1/4000th and sync at 1/200. Interesting.

I've heard $1,899 as well...which seems about right....wait till mid next year it'll drop to $1,499 i'm sure....but yeah, i'm not so bummed about the 1/4000 top shutter speed, as i don't have any f/1.4 glass, but the 1/200s sync speed does bother me a little....i can push my d300 and d7000 to 1/320 all day long....i hope this 1/200 doesn't turn out like the 5dII's "1/200" sync speed that really means 1/160....

I've heard people talking that "it's the same as the 5D3 for half the price - with better dynamic range, to boot!"

Eh, the 1/4000th shutter speed (I know, ISO 100 instead of 200 so not as big a deal), likely cheaper construction, and likely smaller size kind of kill it for me, along with using different batteries from my D3s/D700 combo....

Honestly, I don't have a need for more than 12MP for wedding work, and I sincerely doubt my work would look any different with one of these. I'd much rather use the money for more glass, which would actually be a noticeable difference. I'm perfectly content with the D700 and D3s.

Your mileage may vary.

I think you meant fewer MP "smaller" -- and if we're to believe NR's latest posting, you nailed your price prediction. Not as low a price as I had hoped for, which will mean it will not do much better than the D700 did as an affordable-for-the-masses FX entry point camera. While the D700 was terrifically successful, that $2,000 threshold really stops even more people from coming over to Nikon FX.
