nope, but zeiss has a new 135mm f/2 lense coming out.

unlike the cancelled distagon 15mm zf.2, this one may be real:

Any chance the zeiss has Defocus Control? Nope, none. So, not really what the OP was on about.

My guess is the 135mm is the next frontier.

This happened with the 85mm f/1.4. The moment Samyang came out with theirs others followed suit--Sigma, Nikon, and Samsung. Zeiss already had theirs.

Samyang hinted that a fast 135mm was in the pipeline, but nothing else has surfaced about their plans. My guess is if it turns out to be as good as the AIS MF version of the Nikon, Nikon will probably be more inclined to update the 135mm f/2 DC.

However, don't hold your breath--like the mythical FM3D I doubt it'll surface any time soon. The market position has to be just right for Nikon to do something.

"Ever" is long time, but I don't foresee it happening any time soon.

I'd love to see a revamping of the 180/f2.8 personally, and it's one of few Nikon "redos" I would absolutely be buying. I don't have enough need for the 200/f2VR to justify the cost, but a reasonably affordable revamping of the 180 with VR and N coating? Count me in. There is a Nikon patent on the 135/f1.8 if I'm not mistaken, so maybe there is SOMETHING coming down the pipe at that FL... time will tell.

Well, it's not actually for sale anywhere, months after it was supposed to exist. That sounds like it's a fake product to me, so as far as I can tell zeiss cancelled production of the 15mm distagon.

they never said they were talking about the defocus control as something they wanted.

And let's face it, anybody would be hard pressed to even see spot rear defocussing from a single photo. Anybody want to take a challenge?

It's listed on their product pages, and reviews of real world examples of the lens exist. Also it is 'for sale' in several places, as a preorder mind you, though technically it can be purchased (delivery is another question).
I think they are just slow to get it rolling out due to other investments of time, and a limited market for it.

While certainly late to market, I think it a bit premature to call it cancelled.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 135/2 or 135/1.8 eventually, though I doubt DC will ever come back. I'd expect it to be VRII with magic pixie dust, and cost well over $2k. Probably closer to $3k.

The idea of DC can be easily achieved in post these days, and I doubt Nikkor will continue to offer that.

By that logic, most Leica gear is also fake, hehe.

Yeah, it'll be pricey. I rather hope for an f/2. I think stepping it up to f/1.8 would add significant size, weight and $700-1000 to the price of whatever an f/2 version would sell for. After years of complaining from the Nikon shooting community, they've finally rolled out a nice line of modern/updated primes. In fact, most of the pro level lens lineup has been recently updated, making the 105VR, 24-70, 14-24 some of the "older" current models. So maybe we'll see some of the wish list holes being filled in the near future. Announcements of a 135/2, 300/4 VR, and a premium 50mm would suit me fine.

+1

Though, I would love, and pay for a 135 1.8.
f2 would be fine, but I had a Sony A900 system for a while, and their 135 1.8 is one of my all time favorites.
If they can get close to that in size and quality, I'll happily pay a premium.
