p.1 #1 · How to Improve LR4 Tether Speed?

Hi Guys!

Any ideas on how to improve the tether speed for Lightroom 4? I really like the interface but it's much slower compared to Canon's DPP.

My camera is a Canon 5D II. My laptop is a 15" MBP with 16GB RAM and dual SSD drives already. I use the fast USB cables already but Lightroom takes 6-10 seconds to render the shot while tethering. DPP takes about 3 seconds only.

When shooting 500+ shots, those seconds count. And it really can kill the flow of a shoot to have to wait for the shots to pop out. I tried a demo of Capture One and it's really great and fast but that's another $299

I'd rather not have to switch between softwares so if I can speed up LR that'd be awesome!

Any help would be appreciated!

In maximum one week ,LR 4.2 it will be available along with a promise from Adobe people of a higher speed for every operation that it can be done in LR4.

LR 4.2 RC is available from Adobe right now. There is another thread on this forum discussing the release and it has the links too.

Curious ... when you shoot tethered, does it apply an import preset? If it does, maybe that is what is slowing it down.

Nope. No preset. How long does your tethered shooting take to show up and render?

I've only tethered with DPP and that takes a few seconds to show up. Have not tried it with LR yet.

Okay. I used DPP and it takes about 3 seconds for it to show up and render. LR4 takes about 8 seconds to show up and render.
