p.1 #1 · Carl Zeiss Apo Sonnar T* 2/135 availability
This lens is of particular interest to me, but I'm new to the world of Zeiss and have several questions about which some of you veterans may have more insight.
They've said it will be out in December. Are Zeiss usually pretty accurate with their dates?
When do you think pre-orders will go up and where? Or is it better (or cheaper) to wait several months for the initial fervor to dissipate prior to purchasing?

Alf,
If the new 15mm f/2.8 is any indication of their current deliveries, I'd say December 2013 might be a better guess. ;-)
Actually, any newly released lens is in short supply for a while. The popular ones, like the 21mm don't seem to stay in stock any more, regardless of release date. The new 15mm has been delayed 60 days, and no info on when the USA will see any. It seems to depend on demand, i.e., how much a particular focal length and f/stop is desired.
Just my 2 cents. Other Zeiss owners may have varying opinions.

PS- I"m one of those waiting for a 15/2.8 and on B&H's list since the middle of July...

Thanks,

My experience with Zeiss lenses is that prices don't go down. It is just the opposite. I bought my 21/2.8 for 1250 euro's while the price now is 1649 euro's. I pre-ordered the 15/2.8 (still waiting) for 2189 euro's and now the price in the same shop is increased with 400 euro's.

My advice: do a pre-order.
likewise when i bought the 21/2.8 and 100/2MP .. it was cheaper when I bought it than what it cost now and thats in USD

The original release date for the 15mm was May 2012. Still waiting for mine and I ordered it in March. I believe some have shipped, but not many.

Good one Carsten!
(When the lenses become ***Available***... I guess that that -- Would no longer qualify as 'Pre-Ordering!').

However... We all know what @TSY87 meant all along though.
