Sorry for crap / huge photo (phone).

I've fashioned this from other cameras. Do you think it'll suffice for protection / stability etc?

Looks bombproof, ricardo, you might be more cheap than some other skates...whatever you do don't pull the pin.

If you were to buy today would you do RX1 or RX1R?

Bagh, okay, the triangle loop things off my Dynax 7 don't fit. It won't rotate around the lug. Any idea what theyre called and where I can get a real / thinner one for the rx1??!

I did look up what Sony call the triangular rings the other day and they refer to them as "Hooks" for shoulder strap in the RX1 manual. Never heard them referred to as Hooks before.

Give Sony customer service a call and tell them you lost the hooks for your RX1. Maybe they will just send you some.

I've been shooting a lot of 1:1 format these days, and, needless to say, it's frustrating that the RX1 only offers two viewing aspect ratios. I usually just use black electrical tape on top of my LCD protector, in order to mask off whichever aspect ratio I'm going for, but the OVF is a little more tricky.

Well, I realized recently that Voigtlander made a Kontur viewfinder in 6x6 for an 75-80mm'ish lens, and, as luck would have it, cropping the RX1 square gives me about that equivalent.

I just received the OVF, and it is awesome. Kontur OVFs are probably the best out there, because they have 1X magnification, and you use both eyes with it. Essentially, it's a black box with frame lines that projects the frame lines into your normal vision, so it is huge and bright. I'm talking nearly the same size as my Hasselblad's 45 degree finder, and brighter.

I had to cut a few millimeters off of the front of the hotshoe, since the Sony smart shoe doesn't let it seat all the way in, and the rear of the shoe still sticks out a bit, but I've locked it in there solid, so no worries. My Kontur was pretty scuffed up, so I added my Hasselblad camera leather to it, too. I can still get my neoprene case around it, and, although it looks a bit bulky, I really don't notice much difference in size. I think it's worth it, considering it is probably just about the best OVF possible.

Douglas, did you happen to source that finder from Poland or did you find it from a closer source? Just curious as the ones I see available all seem to be in Poland.

Mine was from Canada via ebay. I paid $99 US and $10 shipping.

Oh yeah, BTW, in order to get the viewfinder centered perfectly, I took out the plastic frame lines screen, sanded a tiny amount off of the side, and then put it back in the camera justified a bit to the flash side of the camera. Things are lined up pretty well, now.

It's kind of ridiculous, but I'm surprised just how well it works. It's my mini GF670, or I guess kind of like a Voigtlander Perkeo, for which the OVF was made.

Also, it seems that, after I shaved off a few mm from the front of the hotshoe and pushed the OVF in as far in as I could (like it is in the pic,) the OVF's frame lines are calibrated to about 1m on the RX1 (in square ratio,) give or take.

Does anybody here use the Sony Class 10 SD cards that are rated at 95MB read and 45MB write with RX1(R)?

The Sandisk 64GB Extreme Pro SD card rated at 95MB read and 90MB write that I've been using has been steady and fast, but the Sony is $50 cheaper! Price-wise the Sony ideal but not sure if the lower write speed means slower performance? I really don't like a laggy memory card

Save even more and just buy 32GB 45mb/s Sandisk SDHC UHS-1 cards for $30 each? Speed is over-rated, certainly for most cameras and definitely for the smaller beasts in our world.

I've got a couple of the Sony cards, they had a great sale on them a few months back. They seem to work just fine, no difference I can tell from my usual Sandisk

I buy whatever looks decent but no where near top end at a good price-size ratio and would certainly have bought the Sony on Monday but at the time Sandisk prices were cheaper for the 3x32GB cards I ordered... which reminds me, time to go pick them up.

My D800 with an ancient 8GB Extreme Pro (2010 or 2011, 45mb/s at the time) is barely slower than a much more modern Lexar CF 800X card and certainly in use wasn't noticeable for read or write. No matter what card is in my USB3 reader, I go make coffee when importing and rendering views in LR. Many small cameras can't fully take advantage of card speeds as is, so buying the fastest most expensive, for many folks, is just a waste. Buy lenses instead! Or travel. Or food. Or nice wine.

I just don't trust the speed ratings half the time on these cards. I have an older Transcend SD HC 32GB card that is rated slower than a newer 32GB Sandisk Extreme Pro I also own and the older - and much cheaper - Transcend seems faster in use. Faster formatting in the camera and faster reads in the computer.

Only time I've ever found card speed to be an issue is when I'm trying to transmit to a wire service during halftime of a football game. If I can shave a minute or two off the transfer that is time I can edit an extra image or two and maybe make a little more money.

Otherwise just doesn't seem to really come up as an issue. Maybe if your filling the buffer doing some machine gun shooting with a D4 or other performance DSLR, but with a camera like the RX1, and its typical uses, I can't ever see card speed being that big of issue anyone would really notice.

I mean, I wouldn't get a class 4 card just because its dirt cheap, but I wouldn't pay a high premium for the cutting edge either.

For $20 or less you can pick up very nice 16-32 gig 95mb/s cards from name brands. I think that is the "sweet spot"

Funny to think back how I spend several hundred dollars for a 1gig card just a few years ago. I remember buying a MP3 player just to yank the HItachi 4 gig microdrive out of it too. Those things cost about $400 and having 4 gigs was considered just massive storage. How things have changed

When camera is set for manual focus, will it remember the last focusing distance if the camera goes to sleep/off? I want to pre-focus on something at a certain distance and wait for my subject to pass by to take the picture. This could take awhile, seconds to hours.
Thank you.

Unfortunately, no for both cases. The focus is reset when the camera either goes to sleep or is turned off.

You would think they would add a feature to the menu. "Do not reset focus until physical power off"
